TaylorMade today announced the 2023 Spider lineup, which includes the Spider GTX and Spider GT Max models.
according to the manufacturer, The Spider GTX combines the best features of the iconic Spider Tour and Spider X models while offering a full range of color options. Available in classic shades like white, silver and black to bold hues like red, ice blue and pink.
“The Spider GTX builds on the performance and shape of two of TaylorMade’s most popular putter designs: the Spider Tour and Spider X,” — Bill Price, senior director of product creation, Putters and Wedges
Key features of the Spider GTX include technologies such as True Path Alignment, designed to provide easy and accurate target alignment, and PureRoll for consistent end-on-end scrolling. It also incorporates a deep center of gravity created by a heavy 154g stability bar at the back of the racquet – which is 45% of the racquet’s total weight.
The Spider GTX is engineered to encourage a stable putting motion while helping the racquet face resist twisting at impact. Due to the extreme concentration of mass in the rear of the club, the Spider GTX ranks among the most forgiving Spider clubs ever made with MOI above 5300.
It features a distinctive wing structure, the defining aesthetic feature of the Spider family, that has crater lines and sharp angles designed to blend seamlessly to create a visually stunning frame that embraces the golf ball in the title.
It’s available in three lengths – 33″, 34″ and 35″ short-slope, single bend and center pivot hose options (choose color and hose options only available in limited lengths). The face-balanced Armlock width is available in 40 and 42 gauge, all available in six different top plate colors.
There’s also a custom version available — the MySpider GTX — which offers a choice of 13 top plate color options, 22 face plates, and 14 paint fill options, among a variety of sightlines, alignment, and weight.
Priced at $349, the paddle is available for pre-order from January 19th and at retailers from February 24th.
Spyder GT Max
The Spider GT Max features two 40g tungsten sliders that can easily be positioned for CG impact, toe hanging, and face spin. This design allows CG scopes to be covered by virtually all previous hammer style spiders while at the same time helping to reduce the miss-strike tendencies of specific putt strokes.
For players who tend to miss throwing the ball to the left, placing the weights in position 1 (backmost) slows down the face rotation. For players who miss to the right, position 3 (farthest forward) helps the face close faster.
If you don’t have a hard bug and are looking for versatility, position 2 offers a neutral option.
The Spider GT Max is designed to allow golfers to adapt their putter to match their stroke and improve accuracy on the greens.
To confirm the design, TaylorMade collected data on hundreds of slurries, with weights in different positions, and found a statistical variation in face angle upon impact between the posterior and anterior weight positions. With the weights forward, the players always had a more closed face angle on impact, and vice versa when the weights were in the back.
“We encourage golfers to take the time to watch their shooting tendencies. By knowing where you miss most, you can adjust the weights on the Spider GT Max to counter your tendencies and help you hit targets more consistently. Why adjust your putt when you can adjust your putter?” – Price Bill
The Spider GT Max comes in an anodized silver with TaylorMade’s famous True Path technology. The lightweight, all-aluminium construction is designed to give the racquet a premium address look with much better durability than plated racquet heads. The steel soleplate and tungsten slide weights are finished with a durable black PVD finish.
The Spider GT Max is offered in two chassis configurations (a short slant and a single slant), allowing golfers to choose offset and toe suspension to suit their stroke.
Available in 34″ and 35″ and in small bevel and single stroke options, the GT Max is available in retail from late spring, priced at $449.00
